Malvern College is a selective school, yet not overly so. The school is doing well academically. In 2024 IB students managed a commendable 35-point average (out of a total 45, and five above world average).
50% of pupils do the IB here. Subject-wise, maths, economics, history and languages are strongest. Languages on offer are German, French, Spanish, Greek and Latin.
80% of pupils are full boarders. No flexi-boarding.
The school has 11 beautiful boarding houses, six of which are for boys, five for girls. Pupils eat in their boarding houses at Malvern, which creates a very strong feeling of belonging and gives house parents and teachers great opportunities to check in with individual pupils.
Exeat weekends are compulsory.
Malvern College is without a doubt one of England’s most beautiful boarding schools. Its Victorian 19th Century campus sits majestically at the foot of the stunning Malvern Hills. Pupils go for runs into the hills, or frequent the picturesque town Malvern for a coffee or pizza on weekends.
The school has a strong international outlook with 35% of pupils from overseas and 45 nationalities represented. This mix of cultures fosters tolerance and open-mindedness. Though undoubtedly cosmopolitan, the typical English countryside and numerous local pupils help retain the school’s idiosyncratically English boarding school character.
We love how friendly, caring and well-organised Malvern is. Families researching potential schools won’t experience a smoother visit. Pastoral care is amazing with lots of individual support where needed.
Malvern College is huge on sports with special elite programs for high-level athletes and a brand new sports center. Standout sports are hockey, golf, football (both boys and girls!), tennis and riding. Loads more on offer though.
Art and Design are very strong with lots of art displayed around campus and bright and well-equipped studios.
Lastly, Malvern College is well known for its amazing music provision. Orchestras, choirs, bands, exceptional teachers teaching anything from the bassoon to the electric guitar. It’s all here!
Too much on? Some parents tell us that their kids’ schedules are very busy and there’s often competing demands between extracurricular and academic commitments.
