How much does a British boarding school stay cost?

Boarding schools in the UK cost between €14,000 and €23,000 per term. For a full year, that adds up to between €42,000 and €69,000.

What extra costs should we expect?

In addition to tuition fees, there are costs for uniforms, travel, excursions, pocket money, and possibly tutoring or music lessons.

Are there scholarships or other financial support options for British boarding school stays?

Yes, some schools offer these for academic, creative or sporting prowess. Scholarships tend to be between 5% -10% of school fees. Sometimes they can be more generous. They will never be offered for stays shorter than one year, however.

What to do if my child is unhappy at boarding school in Great Britain?

It's perfectly natural for children to experience homesickness during the first few weeks at their new school. If it doesn't get better, then most important thing is: talk. With us, with the school, with your child. We take this very seriously and provide help that is quick, pragmatic, and thoughtful.

Who's responsible for the general well-being of my child at boarding school?

It's amazing to hear frequently how well the youngsters take care of themselves. However, every school has dedicated contacts such as houseparents, tutors, and the pastoral care team. They are there for the pupils around the clock, no matter how big or small the concern may be.

What is the food at British boarding schools like?

Better than its reputation! Most of the time there are varied buffets with hot dishes, salads, and desserts – and of course vegetarian and allergy-friendly options as well.

Do the children stay at school on week-ends at British boarding schools?

Yes, most pupils do. Sometimes the British children go home, but the international ones stay.  Many boarding schools offer a great weekend programme, and lots of pupils love staying at school over the weekend. Some schools have free weekends (“exeats”), when pupils can go home or travel.

Honestly, is a British boarding school stay still worth it?

We believe so, yes. But it needs to be the right kind of school that both has a high quality standard, lots of boarders - and of course, is right for your child. A boarding school stay can foster independence, create new friendships, afford excellent education, and is an incredibly formative experience for life.

Who do we contact if there's problems?

Always us! Even after school has started, we remain available as your point of contact, supporter, and bridge-builder between family and school.

When should I start thinking about applying to a British boarding school?

The earlier, the better. But ideally, you should start 24-36 months beforehand for a Y9 entry and 12 to 18 months beforehand for a Y11 and Y12 entry.  But last-minute applications are sometimes possible too.
