Haileybury School
Hertford, England
Haileybury School, located near London, is one of the top destinations for the IB in the UK – boasting a stunning campus, inspiring teachers and outstanding academic results. Especially impressive are the choral performances and the diverse range of extracurricular activities: whether dancing, woodworking, Model United Nations or the maths club, there’s truly something for everyone here.

The Details
The Academics
Haileybury School is academically ambitious, and the results show it: in 2024, pupils achieved 72% top grades (9–7) in their IGCSEs, 53% A grades at A-Level, and an average of 38 points in the IB. Headmaster Martin Collier believes there’s still room for improvement!
Haileybury is fairly selective, so good grades are important when applying.
Languages Taught
German, English as a Foreign Language, French, Ancient Greek, Italian, Latin and Spanish.
The Boarding
More than half of all pupils board full-time. The school’s strong boarding ethos is also felt among day pupils, most of whom stay until the evening—sometimes as late as 9.30 pm—and are thus fully integrated.
Between 50 and 70 pupils live in each of the 12 boarding houses, all of which are up to date. Pupils share rooms with at least one other student up to Upper Sixth (final years), after which single rooms are provided. About 90% of teachers live on campus, offering support and guidance even after school hours.

Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths
Haileybury School is a true wow-school – not just because of its stunning campus, but also thanks to its top-tier offerings in sport, music and STEM. On the sports front, Haileybury excels in football, hockey, tennis, netball, lacrosse and even archery, riding and water polo. Musically, the school boasts a long-standing tradition in choral singing.
But the real highlight is the STEM department, which is setting new standards: through the Stan-X programme, pupils collaborate with Stanford University on researching cures for serious diseases like pancreatic cancer and diabetes. The groundbreaking CubeSat programme allows pupils to develop mini-satellites and send them into space – real space engineering as part of everyday school life! And the VEX Robotics programme offers fascinating insights into robotics, computer science and design technology, where creativity and technical know-how go hand in hand. We were absolutely blown away!
