Getting to know

Our first meeting

Your first meeting with your consultant is all about you.

We will get to know each other, talk through what matters most to you, your wishes, hopes and fears, and start shaping the plan for your boarding school adventure.

Come prepared with questions and things you would like to get out of the experience.  Big dreams or small hopes, everything counts.

How to write it

The personal statement: an essay by and about you

As part of your boarding school application, you’ll write a short personal statement. That's a small essay in which you write about who you are and what you like. Schools read these carefully and they can carry real weight. So take it seriously.

We’ve created a clear guide to help you craft a statement that tells your story with authenticity and impact.

What to consider

Which school is right for me?

This is, of course, the big question.

It's easy to be seduced by first impressions and superficialities. A grand building, a cool location by the sea or in a town, or a slick marketing video on social media.

Our advice? Look deeper. We have put together a  little article that will help you ask the right questions.

Happy reading!

Maximising your success

Some British boarding schools have real admissions procedures – complete with interviews and written tests that you can actually pass or fail. That might sound daunting, but the good news is: both can be prepared for. And we'll be here to help you do this.

Admissions tests

Admissions tests are usually designed to check English skills, but many schools also test Maths and cognitive abilities such as logical thinking or spatial awareness. Don’t worry, you’ll have plenty of time to prepare and we'll help you prepare of course.

Interviews

Many schools conduct interviews, though they’re usually more like a friendly, informal conversation. Still, preparation makes all the difference. We’ll help by running at least one mock interview with you, so you know what to expect and feel comfortable.

The Agreement

A deal with your parents

Sometimes a get-out clause can help!

We recommend that you make an agreement: you have the right to change your mind and not do this under the condition that you keep an open mind until you have gotten to know the schools as much as you can. If you are not convinced then, your parents will understand you not going.

Have a chat with your parents about this. Shout if we can help.
