Hurtwood House School is famous for its strong academic offer around creativity, which includes highly successful drama, media and art subjects. One might assume that this isn't an academic school. Not so. Pupils achieved a very decent 51% A-grades at A level in 2023 with maths, English and psychology among the most popular.
Languages on offer are German, French and Spanish.
80% of pupils are full boarders. Most boarding houses are attractive and cozy as well as within a short bus ride from school proper. Definitely not luxurious, but perfectly adequate. Most pupils share until U6th, when some get single rooms.
Exeat weekends are not compulsory.
The arts, performing arts and media offer is second to none in the UK. Any aspiring actor, painter, musician or media whizz will want to at least take a look at the amazing teaching and facilities on offer here. Specialist acting, film and dance academies on offer, as well as a state-of-the-art recording studio on site.
Hurtwood House School also has the creative school culture to match. Pupils are given a lot of freedom to pursue creative projects under careful yet trusting guidance of teachers. Pupils and teachers are on first name terms. The small size of the school makes for a very close-knit, bubbling creative community where everyone is inspired by everyone else.
Sports is more of an afterthought here. There is some, but focus is definitely on the creative pursuits.
