Frensham Heights School
Frensham, England
Frensham Heights School, located just under an hour’s drive southwest of London, is refreshingly different. Founded in 1925 as part of the Progressive School Movement, the school continues to champion values such as freedom, critical thinking and community involvement. There is no school uniform, and pupils are given plenty of space to express their opinions. All around the campus, you’ll see the words *Think, Create, Explore* – and that’s exactly what this school is all about.

Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths
The creative offering at Frensham Heights School is truly remarkable. The school’s outstanding art department enjoys an excellent reputation across England, producing impressive work thanks to inspiring teachers and modern facilities. Photography lessons also set new standards.
While creativity is undoubtedly a standout feature, Frensham Heights also offers a solid sports programme. Pupils can choose from traditional sports such as cricket, tennis, rounders, football, hockey, swimming, athletics and netball, as well as basketball, handball, gymnastics and parkour.
The school’s high teacher-to-pupil ratio ensures that no talent goes unnoticed and that challenges are identified early. Teachers are committed and motivated to support each pupil’s learning journey as effectively as possible.
Frensham Heights clearly stands apart from traditional English boarding schools. There is no school uniform, no rigid conventions – instead, the focus is firmly on individuality and personal responsibility. Pupils are encouraged to express themselves freely, think creatively and take ownership of their actions.
Weaknesses
The school’s open concept is not ideal for every young person. That’s why Frensham Heights has decided to introduce a bit more structure and clearer guidelines to ensure a harmonious community. However, its liberal approach continues to shape the school’s core ethos.
Location
Frensham Heights School is set in a fairly rural location and can be reached in about two hours by train from London Paddington and Heathrow Airport.
An excellent school for creative pupils who want to take initiative and make great things happen on their own.
