Bryanston School

Bryanston School

Blandford Forum, England

Bryanston School is set in a breathtaking, idyllic parkland in Dorset. 160 hectares of unspoilt nature that offer space to breathe and grow. Next to the grand 18th century manor house, modern light flooded buildings for art, music and science blend harmoniously into the landscape. What is particularly striking is the creative energy that permeates the campus. Art and music are not side subjects at Bryanston, they are at the very heart of school life. Young talents are nurtured, encouraged and taken seriously. At the same time, the school places great importance on individual academic support. Whether pupils choose A Levels or the IB, they are guided with personal attention and care, always with the aim of building on their strengths.

The Details

The Academics

Bryanston School offers GCSEs, A Levels and the International Baccalaureate (IB), with impressive results. In 2024, 43 percent of pupils achieved top grades from 9 to 7 in their GCSEs, 33 percent finished their A Levels with an A, and the average IB score was a strong 38 points, well above the global average. A particular highlight are the subject specific libraries, where pupils can receive support from teachers throughout the day. Once a week, tutors are available for individual conversation.

Languages Taught

English as a Foreign Language. French, German, Italian, Spanish, Latin and Ancient Greek.

The Boarding

In the twelve cosy boarding houses, pupils quickly feel at home. The focus is on community and mutual respect for individuality. There is no school uniform – Bryanston encourages self responsibility and creativity.

Weekends are full of life. Over 100 activities are on offer, from archery and horse riding to trips to the seaside or into London.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths

Creative work has a firm place in everyday life at Bryanston School. In the Don Potter Art Department, pupils find everything they need to bring their ideas to life – from painting and sculpture to ceramics, photography, printmaking and textile work. All of it is supported by experienced professionals who are always on hand with guidance and encouragement.

Musical talent is given special attention at Bryanston. The Tom Wheare Music Department includes two state of the art recording studios and offers more than 600 music lessons each week.

Pupils who enjoy building, designing and experimenting will find ideal conditions in the Design and Technology Centre. This is where real projects take shape using circular saws, 3D printers and laser printers. At Bryanston, pupils do more than just plan – they create. With enthusiasm, craftsmanship and a sharp eye for detail.

When it comes to sport, Bryanston offers more than just the standard. Athletics stands out in particular, with a dedicated elite programme for high performing athletes. Tennis and riding are also a central part of school life, supported by the school’s own stables.

Weaknesses

Every other weekend, many pupils leave Bryanston. Things can get a little quieter then – perhaps a bit too quiet for some?

Bryanston is the perfect school for pupils who want to pursue their creative talents without limits.
