With over 35 percent international pupils and a high IB uptake (50 percent) in the Sixth Form, the school offers a globally minded, academically strong environment. The teaching is excellent, pastoral care is individual and committed, and the range of sports, music and arts leaves nothing to be desired. The Details

The Academics

Malvern College offers IGCSEs, GCSEs, A Levels and the IB – a broad range catering to diverse learning profiles. The school is academically selective but without elitist rigidity – the consistently strong exam results speak for themselves. In 2024, IB pupils averaged an impressive 35 points. Around 50 percent of Sixth Formers choose the IB, with maths, economics, history and languages being particularly popular.

Languages Taught

German, English as a Foreign Language, French, Latin, Greek and Spanish.

The Boarding

More than two thirds of pupils are full boarders, spread across eleven boarding houses (six for boys, five for girls). A true unique feature: meals are not served in a central dining hall but within the houses themselves – creating a particularly close house community and giving houseparents space for genuine care and support.

The pastoral care, with committed teachers, tutors and houseparents, is truly strong here. We appreciate the friendly, structured and caring atmosphere felt throughout the campus. Visiting families often rave about the perfectly organised support.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths

Malvern College is one of England’s most beautiful boarding schools – the Victorian campus, majestically set at the foot of the Malvern Hills, is simply impressive. Anyone looking for a boarding school with a real wow factor should definitely put Malvern on their list.

What particularly excites us is the cosmopolitan spirit lived here naturally: 35 percent international pupils from 45 countries create an open, diverse school community – yet everything remains comfortably rooted in British tradition.

Malvern College lives its own values – the so-called “Malvern Qualities”: eleven guiding principles from collaboration to risk-taking, which are not just on the walls but firmly embedded in lessons and daily life. The aim is to prepare pupils for real life – in a constantly changing world.

In sport, Malvern is among the top schools – not only thanks to its new sports centre and targeted elite programmes but also through genuine excellence in hockey, golf, football (for boys and girls!), tennis and riding.

The art and design offering is legendary – pupil work decorates the school, and you can feel that creativity has space and importance here.

And not to forget: the music department is excellent – driven by passionate teachers, strong orchestras, choirs and bands. Music lovers will feel at home here.

Weaknesses

The school is currently very popular with German families. It makes a great effort to distribute the pupils well across the 11 boarding houses.
