The Details

The Academics

The school offers GCSEs, BTECs and A Levels as qualifications.

Academically, King’s Bruton has no entrance requirements. Given this, the 2024 exam results – with 43 percent A grades in A Levels and 43 percent grades 9 to 7 in GCSEs – are respectable. This success is partly due to a very favourable teacher-pupil ratio of 1 to 9, and partly thanks to the strong commitment of teachers who support and encourage their pupils to the fullest. The school is especially well known among our families for this support.

Languages Taught

German, English as a foreign language, French, Latin and Spanish.

The Boarding

Almost half of all pupils board. Most share a room with one or two other housemates.

There are lessons on Saturday mornings and sport for all in the afternoon. On Saturday evenings and Sundays the school organises outings, trips and activities.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths

King’s Bruton impresses with a family atmosphere and close social bonds – here, everyone knows everyone.

Despite its manageable size, the school is very successful in sport, especially hockey and rugby. The main sports for boys also include cricket, tennis and athletics, while girls compete in hockey, netball, cricket, tennis and athletics. In addition, pupils can participate in numerous other sports such as badminton, cross-country, basketball, volleyball, rounders, football, golf, handball, equestrian sports, cycling and even yoga – either in regular PE lessons or as part of the extracurricular programme.

A particular highlight is the Queen Elizabeth Music School – an architectural gem with state of the art rehearsal rooms, a spacious recording studio and its own percussion room. Here, 500 years of tradition meets modern excellence.

Weaknesses

A small drawback at King’s Bruton is its manageable size: some extracurricular activities that are taken for granted at larger boarding schools unfortunately cannot be offered here.
