Dover College

Dover College is first and foremost a happy place. An oasis in the otherwise rather unattractive town Dover, the school's mission is to improve its pupils' confidence by getting them involved in a multitude of activities - from belly dancing, to the very strong arts, and varied sports options (from yoga to sailing). The school is not especially academic, but is a friendly, open, relaxed place instead.
Von Bülow Education placed 2 pupils here in 2023.

What we think
A place for pupils whose priority it is to get a happy, relaxed experience.

The Details

Academics:

The school offers GCSEs and A-Levels.

Dover College is non-selective but achieves decent academic results nevertheless. In 2023, its GCSE results yielded 35% 9-7 grades and its A-Levels 31% A-grades.

The school has introduced its own curriculum in September 2019, where pupils get the opportunity to explore themes on a cross-subject basis. We like!

French, Spanish and Mandarin on offer. Curiously, no German! The SEN provision is reputed to be very good here.

Boarding:

45% of pupils board. Cozy boarding houses, albeit in need of an upgrade! Pupils share with two others until Y11, then share with one. U6th-formers get single rooms.

The school has no exeat weekends.

Strengths:

Dover College is a small, very friendly school that integrates pupils and makes them feel at home almost instantly.

The school offers great art, with fine art, photography and textiles the stand-outs.

Sports is - in keeping with the overall spirit of the school - inclusive. Everyone is encouraged to participate and to join in with team sports. The offer is broad - from equestrian and sailing to tennis and hockey, the school has something for everyone

Weaknesses:

The boarding community is rather small. The school goes out of its way to compensate this by doing a great job at integrating the boarders.

Boarding accomodation could do with a good touch-up. The school has promised to put money to this in 2019.
