Wycliffe School
Wycliffe School
Stonehouse, England
Nestled in the beautiful Cotswolds countryside in South West England, Wycliffe College combines the charm of a rural setting with excellent accessibility – just two hours from London by direct train. The school strikes a fine balance between the traditions of English boarding education, modern teaching methods and a truly multicultural outlook. Encouraging independence, curiosity and a spirit of discovery has been part of its ethos since its foundation in 1882. It is named after the philosopher, theologian and reformer John Wycliffe, who championed these very values as early as the 14th century. Around half of the pupils are full boarders, and there is a healthy balance between British and international students and day pupils.

The Details
The Academics
Wycliffe offers a welcoming, inclusive environment where academic ambition goes hand in hand with excellent pastoral care. Despite being non-selective, the College achieves impressive results: in 2024, 21% of A level grades were at A*–A and over 60% at A*–B, while at GCSE 28% of grades were 9–7. The school provides outstanding specialist support for pupils with learning differences, from dyslexia to ADHD, and prides itself on nurturing confident, open-minded world citizens.
Languages Taught
English as a foreign language, French and Spanish.
The Boarding
Boarding is at the heart of school life, with eight houses offering everything from cosy shared rooms for younger pupils to en-suite singles in Sixth Form. Weekends bring the community together with barbecues, quiz nights and outdoor adventures in the surrounding Cotswolds.

Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths
The Development Year in Year 10 is a real highlight: with classes often as small as three to five students, pupils enjoy tailored, intensive teaching – not just in the core subjects but also in exciting options like Film Making, Photography or Business.
Sport is another strength at Wycliffe. The modern facilities cover everything from hockey, football, tennis and cricket to riding, fencing and shooting – with pupils even winning regional and national titles in pistol shooting. Girls tend to shine in hockey and rowing, while boys excel in squash.
What we love most, though, is the atmosphere: British and international students form a balanced, welcoming community where support and friendliness are part of everyday life. And the location? Simply unbeatable – right in the heart of the Cotswolds, just two hours by direct train from London.
Weaknesses
None that we can see. The school is fantastic.
