Christ's Hospital School
Horsham, England
The first thing you notice about Christ’s Hospital School is the striking Tudor-style uniform. But that should not put anyone off taking a closer look at the school. Funded by a charitable foundation and located just over an hour south of London, this boarding school offers one of the most socially diverse pupil communities in the United Kingdom. Pupils truly appreciate this mix, along with the excellent teachers and outstanding facilities.

The Details
The Academics
Christ’s Hospital School offers GCSEs and A Levels – and does so with consistently strong results. In 2024, nearly 66 percent of GCSE grades were between 9 and 7, and 35 percent of pupils achieved an A in their A Levels. A result to be proud of. The school has also recently had particular success with applications to Oxford and Cambridge. Pupils are supported with great commitment in preparing for interviews and entrance exams.
Support for pupils with learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD and ADD is another clear strength. Individual support is a real priority here.
Languages Taught
German, English, French, Greek, Latin, Mandarin and Spanish.
The Boarding
Christ’s Hospital is very close to being a full boarding school. The accommodation is well organised and well maintained, though the rooms are on the smaller side. From Year 11 onwards, pupils can look forward to having their own room – a real bonus in terms of privacy and personal space.
At the weekend, many pupils head into Horsham or even into London – the excellent transport connections make it easy to enrich boarding life with a city trip from time to time.

Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths
Christ’s Hospital School is a truly charitable institution and offers generous scholarships. Only one third of pupils pay full fees, one third pay half, and one third pay nothing at all. This makes Christ’s Hospital the most socially diverse school community we know of in the UK.
Sport plays a major role at Christ’s Hospital. The school has particularly strong boys’ and girls’ teams in football, and also offers rugby and cricket at a high level.
More than 100 extracurricular activities are on offer. From coding and debating to crafting and making, there is something exciting for everyone.
Music and drama are equally impressive. The school’s own theatre hosts more than ten major productions each year. With orchestras, bands, choirs and of course the iconic Marching Band, Christ’s Hospital is among the most musical schools in the UK.
Weaknesses
Unfortunately, the school uniform and the marching band put off many potential applicants.
Location
Christ’s Hospital is idyllically located in the countryside of West Sussex, just south of Horsham. The school even has its own train station with regular services to London, Brighton, and Gatwick Airport – a particularly convenient option for travel to and from school by train.
Heathrow Airport - 1hr 10mins by car
London - 1 hr 30 mins by car
A great school. Unpretentious, egalitarian and inspiring.
Visit the school and let your child try on the uniform for themselves! More than half of all families are convinced by the school after a visit.
