Blundell´s School
Blundell´s School
Tiverton, England
Blundell’s School is an open, friendly, and welcoming school with a strong Harry Potter vibe. Located in the beautiful county of Devon in the southwest of England, life here is relaxed and down-to-earth. That may be due in part to the West Country charm of the teachers. In any case, the school makes a real effort to accommodate the individual needs and wishes of its pupils.

The Details
The Academics
Blundell’s is a classic British boarding school known for its friendly atmosphere and strong sense of community. Academically, the school is well-established without coming across as elitist. Exam results are solid: in 2024, students achieved 57% grades 9–7 in their GCSEs and 49% A grades at A-Level. The school accomplishes this without particularly strict admission requirements. It offers both GCSEs and A-Levels, with a broad range of subjects. Science, Mathematics, Business Studies, and Geography are especially popular – not least because of the dedicated teachers who don’t just impart knowledge, but spark curiosity. This approach leads to a few students making it to Oxford and Cambridge each year.
Languages Taught
French, Spanish, German, Latin, Ancient Greek and Mandarin.
The Boarding
About half the students live on campus – in seven cozy boarding houses that offer plenty of space for both community life and personal retreat. This creates a vibrant mix and genuine integration – no one is left out. Friendships form quickly, and cultural differences are not glossed over but welcomed with interest. Blundell’s strikes a finely balanced harmony – a thoroughly British school that sees international diversity not as a challenge, but as an asset.

Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths
Blundell’s is a school where students gain more than just academic knowledge. The sports program is impressively diverse, with clear strengths in rugby, hockey, and horse riding. At the same time, there's a wide range of other activities on offer: swimming in the school’s own heated outdoor pool, kayaking, sailing, football, or squash – anyone who enjoys being active will find their niche here.
There’s also a strong emphasis on music and the performing arts. The school has its own recording studio, various choirs and bands, as well as an orchestra. Up to eight theatre productions are staged each year in the Ondaatje Hall. A particularly charming touch: Blundell’s regularly invites international theatre groups from France, Spain, and Germany – enriching school life and offering fresh perspectives.
What truly sets Blundell’s apart is its atmosphere: warm, grounded, and open. A school with values but without pretension – refreshingly different from many of the polished campuses around London.
Weaknesses
Recently, Blundell’s has seen a rise in weekly boarders – a trend that’s gradually reshaping the traditional seven-day boarding community. For families seeking a full boarding experience, it’s worth taking a closer look.
