Bloxham School
Bloxham School
Bloxham, England
Not far from Oxford lies Bloxham School — a small, well-rounded British school with a lot of character. Academically solid, it also offers a wealth of opportunities beyond the classroom. Bloxham makes sure that every student takes part in school life in one way or another. The school is particularly strong in drama and sport. The stage is just as much a part of daily life here as the sports field. And anyone going up against the boys’ rugby team or the girls’ hockey squad knows: it won’t be an easy match.

The Details
The Academics
The school’s admissions process isn’t particularly selective, yet the exam results are impressive: in 2024, 50% of GCSEs were graded 9–7, and 40% of A-Level grades were As.
Languages Taught
English, French, Spanish and Latin.
The Boarding
Starting life at a boarding school can be a bit daunting at first — but Bloxham School, with its seven cosy boarding houses and friendly, engaged pupils, makes settling in easy. From Year 10 onwards, all pupils have their own room. And for those who want a weekend escape, shopping and sightseeing in nearby Oxford is always an option.

Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths
Bloxham School offers a particularly strong sports programme, with rugby, golf, hockey, and riding standing out. But other sports are well catered for too — including swimming in the school’s own 23-metre pool, sailing, and clay pigeon shooting.
The departments for music and drama are also worth highlighting. The Sam Kahn Music School has its own orchestra and a brand-new recording studio. The school stages at least eight productions a year — so anyone who loves the spotlight will feel right at home!
Bloxham School has a refreshingly down-to-earth atmosphere, especially compared to some of the more highbrow boarding schools in the London area.
With only 8% international pupils, Bloxham School is very English — there’s no better place to truly master the language!
Weaknesses
We wouldn’t mind seeing a few more boarding pupils! That said, the school puts a great deal of effort into integrating boarders and day pupils.
The single rooms in the upper years have both advantages and drawbacks. For our part, we’re not the biggest fans.
Location
The school is just a 15-minute drive from the centre of Oxford.

Bloxham is perfect for pupils who want to experience the atmosphere of a truly English boarding school.
The school's “Survival Skills” cooking course is a great preparation for university life.
