GCSEs and A-levels are offered. Although Truro is not very selective, its exam results are very good and the school is one of the top 10 in the UK when it comes to its added value score, i.e. the personal improvement rate of the students. In the 2024 school year, 45 percent of the students at A-level graduated with A grades. At GCSE more than fifty percent were at 9-7 grades.
The school enjoys an excellent reputation when it comes to students with special needs. A team of three experienced teachers supports students in individual sessions or small groups and specialises in dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia and autism spectrum disorders (ASD).
Most of the students come from Cornwall, which is why the boarding school community is very small and familiar at about 9 percent of students. Most of the boarding school students are British. Students from China/Hong Kong, Germany, Thailand, Vietnam, Spain, Ukraine, France, Russia, the USA and Dubai are currently represented among the international boarding school students. The boarding school students live in three houses, which are centrally located between Truro and the school campus. The young girls live in Pentreve, which has eight rooms. The older girls live in Malvern house with its 22 rooms. The boys have the largest house with the 35-room Trennick. The house parents live together with the boarding school students in these houses. The 11 to 15-year-olds have a shared room in Pentreve. The older students have individual rooms.
The school does not have exeat weekends.
Clearly, a great strength of this school is its location nestled in an incomparable landscape with good access to the very pleasant city of Truro. Truro's sports offer with its elite promotion programmes is one of the best in the UK, especially in the areas of fencing, sailing and surfing at the Surf Academy. Students regularly participate successfully in the European Fencing Championships and the Junior English Surf Championships, among others. But also in horse riding, tennis, football, swimming and other water sports, both beginners and ambitious professionals are in very good hands. Other sports taught by experts are golf, rugby, hockey, cricket, netball, rounders and athletics.
Truro School offers more than 100 leisure activities, ranging from cooking classes in the state-of-the-art cooking school, computer programming and robotics, to jewellery-making or astronomy. But water sports are clearly the school's crown jewel!
Cornwall is not very central despite its good transport connections. The proportion of boarding school students is rather low at around 9 percent, although the school makes a huge effort to integrate international students into the school community - and with great success.
