The IB, one year pre-IB course and GCSEs on offer.
St Leonards School is a moderately selective school and a staunch supporter of the IB. No A-Levels here! The school averaged 34 points in the IB in 2024 and achieved a very good 54% 9-7 grades in the I/GCSEs.
With its commitment to the IB, the school recently added a few more exotic subjects like computer science, psychology and sports science to the portfolio.
Language-wise there's German, French, Spanish, Russian, Mandarin and Latin on offer.
30% of pupils board. St Leonards School does a great job at integrating day and boardign pupils by running day rooms in the boarding houses. The school invested heavily in the refurbishment of three boarding houses - with great success! The girls house we saw was one of the nicest we've seen anywhere.
Exeat weekends exist but pupils can stay at the school.
St Leonards School's location in the heart of beautiful university town St Andrews is surely a stand-out feature. This allows for access to some of the amazing facilities and activities the university offers, including visiting lectures of interesting international speakers. Moreover, the location by the sea and next to some of Scotland's finest golf courses allows for great watersports and golf!
The sports offer is great here. Golf is the inevitable stand-out with the school's own Golf Academy, run on famous St Andrews' golf course. Thanks to being close to the seaside, sailing, windsurfing and kayaking are hugely popular. Other popular sports are horse riding, hockey, lacrosse, judo, trampoline, skiing, badminton, swimming, snowboarding, tennis and rock-climbing.
We absolutely love St Leonard School's arts department, a stunning, bright atelier space with some outstanding fine art and textile projects on display.
The IB attracts international pupils, which in of itself is great. However, in recent years we've had German families complain about the large numbers of German pupils at the school.
