A-Levels and GCSEs on offer.
Sedbergh School is a moderately selective school. Its results are consistently decent. In 2024, 32% of GCSEs were 9-7 grades and 34.5% of A-Level grades were A-grades.
The full-boarding nature of the school facilitates pupils getting lots of individual support here. Many teachers live onsite and help beyond working hours and there's plenty of time for one-to-ones and tutorials. Furthermore, the school's SEN department is excellent and especially supportive of pupils with dyslexia and dyspraxia.
French, German, Spanish, Latin and Greek are on offer.
95% of pupils board, which in essence makes Sedbergh School a full-boarding school.
Nine houses (six boys, three girls), each with its own style and character. Pupils in the lower years share with one or two others, in 6th Form pupils get single rooms.
Exeat weekends exist but are not compulsory.
Sedbergh School is a true-blood full-boarding school. With everyone at school 7 days a week, the boarding community is incredibly tight-knit and supportive.
Sedbergh School is famous for its sports prowess. Rugby is hands-down the best in the UK right now. Loads of great sports including lacrosse, athletics, horse riding (Sedbergh has an equestrian team), badminton, sailing, shooting, squash and tennis.
Due to the stunning rural location, Sedbergh School is a paradise for outdoors-aficionados. Anything from orienteering, fishing, kayaking, mountain biking, fell running or rock climbing is offered here.
To reduce Sedbergh School to physical activity only would be grossly unfair, however: the school's drama department is very strong, putting on at least five major productions every year; the art and product design artifacts we saw on our last visit were hugely impressive and indicative of excellent art and design technology departments.
Some of the boarding accomodation is in need of an upgrade. We advise that families visiting insist on being shown at least two different boarding houses!
