A-Levels and GCSEs on offer.
Glenalmond College is non-selective, yet achieved a very respectable 43% 9-7 grades at GCSEs and 55% A-grades at A-Levels in 2024. The school has upped its game here and this is in no small part due to a larger focus on helping pupils individually and the good pupil-to-teacher ratio of 7:1.
Language-wise the school has Latin, Greek, German, Spanish, French and Mandarin on offer.
80% of pupils are boarders. Boarding accomodation is decent, some on and some off campus. Teaching staff all live onsite, which helps with both pastoral care and academic support.
Pupils share with one or two others. Exeat weekends exist but are not compulsory.
Glenalmond College’s many outdoors activities are excellent. Pupils go mountain-biking, white-water kayaking, rock-climbing, caving and sailing. The little river running through campus even allows for salmon fishing!
Glenalmond College has a strong tradition in sports, especially rugby, hockey and golf. The school is in permanent competition with neighbouring schools Strathallan and Fettes for all three! Other sports include swimming, tennis and lacrosse.
The school is close to a full boarding school, which is becoming increasingly rare in the UK. The fact that most staff live onsite further contributes to the close-knit community spirit at Glenalmond College.
Over the last few years Glenalmond College has struggled a bit to keep its international pupil mix in balance. Especially the Y11 has had too many German pupils for our liking. The school is looking to address this issue.
