Frensham Heights School

Frensham Heights School is refreshingly different. It is a school with a liberal, creative ethos. Pupils don't wear school uniforms, and whilst the norms of discipline are kept here just like at any other high-quality boarding school, pupils get more freedom to express themselves and to be individuals. The words 'Think, Create, Explore' inscribed all over the campus say it all.
Von Bülow Education placed 2 pupils here in 2023.

What we think
A school for creative pupils able to thrive in an environment that encourages self-direction.

The Details

Academics:

The school offers GCSEs und A-Levels.

Frensham Heights School does not select for academic achievement. Despite this, the academic results are decent: in 2023, its GCSE results yielded 33% 9-7 grades and its A-Levels 22% A-grades.

French and Spanish on offer. Art and photography hugely popular.

Boarding:

35% of pupils board. Not a huge number, but the school makes an amazing effort to integrate day pupils and boarding pupils.
Three boarding houses, all of which are of good standard and very cozy.

Exeat weekends exist but are not compulsory.

Strengths:

Frensham Heights School's creative offer is special. Whether it's the amazing arts department or the second-to-none photography, this school is doing great things in the creative arena. The incredibly passionate teachers and small classes help of course.

The academic support is great here. Due to said passionate teachers and a high teacher:pupil ratio, the individual attention pupils are afforded is higher than at most other schools. Pupils with all talents and abilities profit.

Frensham Heights School has a progressive, liberal ethos. No school uniforms, focus on individual development rather than conformity, and encouragement of independence and personal responsibility all make this school unique.

Weaknesses:

Though compatible with the school's creative culture, the liberal approach is not for everyone: the school has had to become tougher on certain irresponsible pupil behaviour in the last couple of years.

The language and sports provision could be both better and broader, too!
