Cheltenham College achieves consistently strong academic results. In 2024, yielded 56% 9-7 grades and its A-Levels 42% A-grades. Subject-wise, Maths, English, DT, music, history and science were strongest.
Languages on offer are German, Spanish, French, Latin and Greek.
80% of pupils board, making Cheltenham College close to a full boarding school. Independent watchdog Ofsted voted Cheltenham's boarding facilities as outstanding. We agree. The nine houses (five for boys, four for girls) are up-to-date, cozy, beautifully decorated and around the perimeter of the school.
Pupils share with one or two others. Some lucky U6th-Formers get single rooms.
Exeat weekends are compulsory.
Cheltenham College is beautiful. Its Victorian gothic buildings lend the school a proper "harry-potteresque" flair. Also, the location in the heart of beautiful town Cheltenham with all its amenities and cultural sights is a big plus.
The school is also a proper English boarding school with close to full boarding and predominantly English boarders, which for families seeking a proper "English experience" is perfect.
Sports is huge at Cheltenham College. The school excels at tennis, rugby, hockey, cricket, rowing and polo, but a lot more is on offer here.
Art and design are very stong also - we were very impressed by the facilities, but also the pupils' sophisticated, high-quality work.
Lastly, we love the school's focus on wellbeing. Cheltenham College is one of very few schools to have started a dedicated wellbeing programme for pupils called 'Floreat'.
The compulsory exeat week-ends mean that pupils have to leave the school for those weekends, which can be a logistical hassle, especially for international families.
