The school offers GCSEs, A-Levels, the IB and a few BTecs. Bedford School achieves consistently good academic results. In 2021, its GCSE results yielded 77% 9-7 grades, its A-Levels 75% A grades and an IB average of 37 points. Given Bedford's broad intake, this is commendable!
Language-wise there is German, Spanish, French and Latin on offer.
40% of pupils board. About 15% of pupils at the school are international. Six boarding houses, all adapted Victorian villas and all feel intimate and cozy. With the town Bedford right there, boarders have ample opportunity to shop
Exeat weekends exist but are not compulsory.
Bedford School has a very strong sports offering with rugby, cricket, rowing, swimming and golf especially noteworthy. A broad range of sports including equestrian, sailing and athletics also on offer.
Music is of a very strong calibre here. The new music center is witness to amazing orchestra-, choir-, ensemble- and band performances. A brand new recording studio is also available.
Theatre is strong also with the gorgeous 280-seater theater coming into action with at least one major production per term.
Bedford School is also refreshingly down-to-earth compared to other top boys schools which can feel a bit stuffy at times.
Bedford School could have a few more boarders for our taste. However, the school makes an amazing effort to bring day and boarding boys together - whenever, whereever.
