The school offers GCSEs, A-Levels, and its own curriculum called BACs.
Bedales School achieves consistently good academic results despite not being overly selective. In 2024, 65% of GCSE and BAC grades were 9-7 grades and 31% of A-Level grades were A grades.
Not being keen on the GCSE curriculum (too restrictive!), Bedales School introduced the Bedales Assessed Courses (BAC). Pupils can choose subjects like classical music, digital game design, product design or sports science.
70% of pupils board. About 8% of boarders are international students, making Bedales a very English boarding school. The boarding houses are very cozy and only 2 minutes from the main building. Most pupils share rooms with at least one other person. On week-ends the school organises non-compulsory activities. Anything from pizza bake-offs in the school's own pizza oven to cinema and bowling outings is on the cards.
Exeat weekends exist and are compulsory.
Bedales School strength lies in its unparalleled creative offer. Music, drama, dance, the arts and design are all excellent here. In fact, you'll be hard-pressed to find better in the UK!
Bedales School's strong focus on individualism is another strong suit. Pupils are encouraged to develop their individual personalities and question the world.
Some families feel that the other side of the coin of Bedales School's encouragement of individualism is that pupils misuse it. However, this seems to be a minority view!
