Abbotsholme School is non-selective, yet achieved 11.5% A grades at A-Levels and 37% 9-7 grades at GCSE in 2023. This is in no small part due to the good pupil-to-teacher ratio of 10:1, as well as dedicated teachers and a highly supportive learning environment.
Abbotsholme School offers German, French and Spanish for languages.
35% of pupils are boarders. 6th Formers share cosy wooden log cabins in the so-called Barnfield 6th Form Village – a truly unique element to Abbotsholme’s boarding life.
Most pupils share rooms with one to three other pupils.
On weekends, regular cultural trips to nearby cities like Manchester and Liverpool are organised, as well as local trips to the cinema, bowling and meals at local restaurants.
Exeat weekends exist but are not compulsory.
Abbotholme School’s many outdoors activities are excellent. Pupils go mountain-biking, sea canoeing, white-water kayaking, rock-climbing, caving and sailing. This trains pupils endurance and resilience and allows them to forge friendships for life.
Abbotsholme School is a Round Square school, meaning it teaches pupils social responsibility with national and international projects. The small size of the school creates a very familiar, close-knit atmosphere.
Currently only 35% of pupils board. Abbotsholme School does a great job integrating its boarders and connecting them with day pupils. Its small size helps.
