Winchester College belongs to the most prestigious boarding schools in Great Britain. It is generally known for its intellectually curious pupils, its passionate and inspiring teachers and all-round stimulating boarding environment. The school offers excellent sports, and is particularly successful in sailing, football and squash. Formerly a boys-only school, Winchester College now takes in girls at 6th Form and soon at other intakes also.

The Academics
Winchester can look back on impressive results: in 2025, 93% of GCSE exams were awarded grades 9–7, and 75% of A Levels were graded A–A*. However, the focus is not only on achievement, but also on a passion for learning: subjects are taught by specialists, and the subject “Div” provides in-depth intellectual reflection throughout the year beyond the scope of exam syllabuses.

The Boarding
Winchester is an (almost) full-boarding school. It was only in 2022 that its doors opened to girls for the first time — a small group in the Sixth Form who can choose between day and boarding places.

Strengths
Alongside its academic achievements, Winchester impresses with over 55 student societies ranging from the classical to the quirky. Whether it’s the Aeronautical Society, Robotics, Drama and Opera, Psychology, or even SCUBA and Warhammer – everyone here can find a niche to pursue their interests and try out something new.

Winchester College is located in the charming city of Winchester, one and a half hours from London.

An amazing school for academically strong youngsters with an appetite for lots of activities.
