Repton School
Repton School
Repton, England
Repton School is idyllically situated in the small town of Repton in Derbyshire – peaceful, rural and typically British. The school is renowned for its sporting excellence, but Repton is much more than just sport. A vibrant boarding life, modern science buildings, a strong theatre and music programme, and a genuine sense of community make Repton a well-rounded school for versatile pupils.
The Details
The Academics
At Repton School, pupils can take both GCSEs and A Levels – a classic British route with a solid academic foundation. The school is not overly selective, making the very respectable results all the more impressive: in 2024, 42% of pupils achieved A grades at A Level, and 57% of GCSEs were in the 9–7 range.
A real highlight is the new Science Block – modern, light-filled and technically state-of-the-art. Particularly striking are the 3D projectors: they display organs like the heart or kidney in impressive three-dimensional animations – biology you can really grasp!
Languages Taught
English as a Foreign Language, French, Latin, Ancient Greek, German and Spanish.
The Boarding
Around 70% of pupils board. Most share a room with one or two others – a good balance between community and privacy. The ten boarding houses – six for boys, four for girls – each have their own personality. A visit is well worth it, ideally with the opportunity to get to know several houses.
Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths
Repton School is a genuine sports powerhouse. Few schools in the UK can boast as many successes across such a wide range of sports as Repton. Hockey, football, cricket, swimming and tennis all reach an exceptionally high competitive level here – for both boys and girls! Swimming, sailing, riding and golf are also integral parts of the diverse programme.
But Repton shines not only in sport: the creative offerings are equally impressive. The Art Department hosts professional artists-in-residence who share their expertise directly with the pupils. Music thrives with high pupil participation (over 60% play an instrument!), numerous house competitions, and its own concert series where pupils perform alongside professional musicians. Theatre also has a firm place – with plays, musicals, cabarets and a highlight: the annual Repton Fashion Show.
