Monkton Combe , Bath, England
Monkton Combe School, set on a 20-hectare site amid a unique woodland and hill landscape near the UNESCO World Heritage city of Bath, is a small but distinguished school with strong academic results, excellent rowing and outstanding music and art departments. Thanks to its Christian ethos, the atmosphere at the school is especially friendly, family-like and caring.

The Details
The Academics
Monkton Combe School is not highly selective academically – making the 2024 exam results all the more respectable: 39 percent A grades at A Level and 51 percent grades 9 to 7 at GCSE. The curriculum includes the classic GCSEs and A Levels, complemented by plenty of personal support and small classes.
Languages Taught
English as a Foreign Language, French, Spanish and Latin.
The Boarding
More than half the pupils board, spread across seven charming boarding houses, each with its own character. A particular highlight is the warm houseparents who genuinely care for their pupils. Weekends are always lively – whether cosy movie nights in the houses, sporting challenges or trips to nearby Bath, which is just minutes away. A school with a strong sense of community and a relaxed yet purposeful learning environment.

Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths
A clear strength of Monkton Combe School is that it is an exceptionally happy, down-to-earth school offering tremendous personal and academic support. Our pupils feel at home here from day one.
Monkton Combe offers good sports facilities and is especially renowned for its excellent rowing programme. Alongside the classic English sports, badminton, basketball, football, fencing, golf, judo and volleyball are very popular here.
The school’s art, music and design offerings are truly fantastic! A real highlight is the new Creative Centre: a £15 million project featuring a light-filled art studio, an impressive concert hall and a well-equipped design department. Music lovers are also well catered for – the school has a strong jazz tradition and hosts the popular Longmead Jazz Festival every year.
Weaknesses
What Monkton Combe School lacks in visual wow factor, it more than makes up for in warmth and friendliness!
Location
Monkton Combe School is located about ten minutes from the famous spa city of Bath.
A charming school with an especially warm atmosphere that welcomes every pupil.
It’s best to visit the school in June, when the school’s outstanding jazz festival takes place.
