Wrekin College is a non-selective school. Considering this, it achieves very decent academic results. In 2024, its GCSE results yielded over 40% 9-7 grades and its A-Levels 29% A-grades.
One stand-out feature of Wrekin's educational offer is its focus on employability after school. With its own Business School, Wrekin College gives pupils a solid preparation for the world of work post-school.
Language-wise there's German, Spanish and French on offer.
20% of pupils board. That isn't a great number, the school goes to great lengths, however to integrate boarders and day pupils.
The three boarding houses are cozy and all to a decent quality standard. Pupils share with one or two others.
On weekends, the school organises regular offside outings to go shopping, the cinema, cultural events etc.
Exeat weekends exist but are not compulsory.
We value Wrekin College as a friendly, inclusive and down-to-earth school. Pupils find their feet here very quickly and get all the attention and support they need to have a great boarding school experience. The school does a really good job with integrating international pupils!
Wrekin College's focus on what the school calls employability is smart and forward-thinking. Pupils have access to the school's own Business School, a place where along with subjects such as Accounting, Business Studies, Economics and Psychology, pupils can attend business lectures and career talks, participate in business games, sessions on presentation skills, CV writing and anything else that might prepare them for the world of business and work post-school. An amazing initiative!
Wrekin College's creative options around music, art and design are all strong. We especially liked the arts and music departments on our last visit - both hives of creative vibrancy.
We'd prefer a few more boarders. Wrekin's success in integrating boarders and day pupils helps, however.
