Windermere School is well known for its highly supportive environment. Personal academic tutors often meet pupils daily to help their academic progress. The excellent SEN department ensures that dyslexic and otherwise impaired pupils are supported well.
Language-wise French, German, Italian and Spanish are on offer. Greek and Latin off timetable.
30% of pupils are boarders. Not a huge percentage, but there is excellent integration of boarders and day pupils here.
The three boarding houses are simple yet cozy and with amazing views over Lake Windermere. Most pupils share with at least one other. Some 6th formers get to live in self-contained flats reminiscent of student housing to prepare them for, well, student life.
There are no exeat weekends at Windermere School.
Windermere School's outdoors programme is second to none! Nestled into the gorgeous Lake District, the red-cheeked pupils go horseback-riding, mountain-biking, hiking, climbing and kayaking to their hearts' content. The undoubted jewel in the school's crown is the Hodge Howe water sports center right on Lake Windermere. Here pupils sail, both to compete and for recreational purposes. Wind-surfing is also popular!
Windermere School is a Round Square school with a strong focus on educating the whole person including strong teaching of social responsibility with national and international projects. This combined with an exclusive focus on the IB, makes Windermere a very interesting educational environment indeed!
Windermere School is a small school with an incredibly caring, nurturing, friendly environment. The small size of the school creates a very familiar, close-knit atmosphere. Classes are small and teachers supportive.
Currently only 30% of pupils board. Windermere does a great job integrating its boarders and connecting them with day pupils. Its small size helps.
