GCSEs and A-Levels are offered as qualifications.
In 2024, 38% of students achieved grades 9 to 7 in GCSEs, while 35% earned A grades in A-Levels. This is very solid, especially considering the school is non-selective.
In addition to traditional subjects like Mathematics, English, and History, specialized courses such as Design Technology, Food Preparation & Nutrition, and Performing Arts BTEC are offered.
International students benefit from a tailored EAL (English as an Additional Language) program that not only improves language skills but also focuses on cultural integration. Through targeted linguistic and cultural support, such as preparation for the IELTS test, students are well-prepared for the British education system.
Languages available at Queen’s include German, French, and Spanish.
25% of the student body resides as boarders.
Queen’s College provides a vibrant and diverse environment across its four boarding houses—Pre-boarding, Cotlak, Hutton, and School—welcoming students from 30 different nationalities. Younger students live in Cotlak House, mostly in double or triple rooms. Senior and Sixth Form girls stay in Hutton House, while boys in these age groups reside in School House. Most students share a room with one or two peers, and Sixth Formers enjoy single rooms.
Recreational activities like paintball, city trips, or water-based fun provide plenty of variety. On campus, events such as BBQs, pizza nights, or Combat Archery add to the lively atmosphere. During term time, rooms are closed during the day to encourage interaction between boarders and day students. The combination of structure, community, and diverse opportunities makes boarding at Queen’s College a place where students from around the world feel at home.
There are no exeat weekends.
The school combines individual attention with a diverse range of opportunities and a warm community. Both students and parents feel well-supported and appreciate the close, trusting relationships with teachers.
The school boasts an unbeatable range of extracurricular activities, including excellent hockey, tennis, and athletics for both boys and girls, a fantastic arts and design program, and numerous clubs such as kayaking, climbing, clay pigeon shooting, fencing, horse riding, hip-hop, caving, mountain biking, dance, and debating.
Moreover, the school is highly inclusive, allowing students to participate in a wide variety of activities, even without prior experience. For example, students who have never played rugby can join a competitive rugby team at Queen’s.
And last but not least: the food at Queen’s is excellent!
While the focus on arts and outdoor activities offers a broad range of opportunities, it may be less appealing to students seeking a more academically focused environment.
