Pangbourne College is not especially academically selective and admits pupils with a wide range of ability. In 2022, pupils achieved 46% 9-7 grades at GCSE and 23% at A-level.
The school has been upping its game and has created an effective support structure, complete with tutor system and performance tracking. The exam results are on the up!
Language-wise there is French, Spanish, German and Latin on offer.
50% of pupils board with a fair share doing flexi-boarding.
Four boys’ houses and two for girls. Day- and boarding pupils are very well integrated here. Houses are functional, with some homely touches and dorms ranging from single bedrooms to those housing four.
Exeat weekends are compulsory here.
Pangbourne College is a happy school. The school places a lot of emphasis on compassion, teamworking and leadership and goes out of its way to teach pupils self-discipline. Its CCF provision is very strong and very much geared to teaching these soft skills.
The school's sports offer is strong with rowing, rugby and hockey being standouts. Riding is also very popular here!
The new music school is amazing with its own recording suite and lots of activity: 40% of pupils play an instrument here and put this to action in the orchestra, jazz band, marching band or several rock bands.
With Pangbourne College being close to London, a fair share of pupils from London-based families leave school for the weekend. There will always be a critical mass of pupils at the school on weekends though!
