Oundle School

Oundle School is a full boarding school for the more advanced all-rounder. The school is academically selective, academically demanding and with 68% A*/As at A-Level has the results to show for it. On top of the academics, there's an abundance of great extracurricular activities on offer. Most noteworthy is the school's excellent engineering and product design offer, which is hands-down the best in the UK!

The Details

The Academics:

A-Levels and GCSEs on offer.

No doubt, Oundle School is an academic school and is selective in its intake. In 2024, 74% of I/GCSE grades were 9-7s and 67% of A-Levels were As. Rather good!

Oundle School's academic credentials are broad and span languages, sciences and the arts. If we had to identify a strength, it would have to be the school's amazing STEM provision which all happens in the imperious SciTec Center. More on that later!

Languages on offer are Spanish, French, German, Latin, Greek, Arabic, Mandarin and Russian.

Boarding:

80% of pupils are full boarders. No flexi-boarding offered.

Eight boys’ houses and five girls’ houses, which are scattered across the small market town Oundle. The houses are attractive and cozy. A special element to boarding at Oundle is that pupils have their meals in their boarding houses.

Exeat weekends exist and are compulsory.

Strengths:

We simply have to start with the school's STEM and more specifically the astonishing Patrick Engineering Center. The school has in essence created one space for its natural science, engineering, maths, product design and technology. The main area feels more like the state-of-the-art production plant at Tesla - a clean, light space where pupils work with 3D printers, lazer cutters and saws to create their own electric cars. Anyone interested in building things should take a look!

The school's sports is very strong with cricket, hockey, swimming and rugby being especially strong. Oundle School is currently developing a huge new sports center due to open in 2021.

The arts are just as strong as the engineering and design. We saw amazing textiles, paintings and sculptures here (see our blog entry from our last visit below)

Lastly, we love Oundle School's energy and dynamism. Whether it's sports, building electric cars or learning Latin, pupils are buying into the school's positive 'can-do' attitude.
