Kingham Hill School

Nestled into the glorious Cotswold countryside, Kingham Hill School is a haven for pupils that require academic support. The school has an excellent SEN department to facilitate this. That does not mean that Kingham Hill School doesn't cater for the more academic pupil - the school sports an excellent maths department that produces consistently great results. This place is great for anyone looking to explore his/her talents within and outside of the classroom.
Von Bülow Education placed 2 pupils here in 2023.

What we think
Perfect for pupils in need of academic support or who might need some encouragement.

The Details

Academics:

GCSEs, A-Levels and BTecs on offer.

Kingham Hill School is non-selective, yet achieved a highly respectable 47% 9-7 grades in their GCSEs and 50% A-grades in their A-Levels in 2023. The value added is fantastic here and mostly thanks to amazing teaching, structured learning and small classes.

Maths, economics and politics are especially popular and successful. Great maths department with very inspirational head of maths.

Language-wise there is German, French, Spanish and Latin on offer.

One key feature that distinguishes Kingham from many other schools is its amazing SEN provision. Six full-time staff help pupils with learning difficulties, either with individual or group support.

Boarding:

60% of pupils are full boarders. The seven boarding houses are clean, bright and cozy. Houses tend to have 25 pupils only, so smaller than average boarding houses. Older pupils in 6th from get single rooms, everyone else shares.

Exeat weekends exist but are not compulsory.

Strengths:

Kingham Hill School has the feel of a very safe, sheltered, happy school. Its truly stunning rural location, small size and amazing pastoral care make this school a truly friendly school with very contented pupils. The school's own farm further helps pupils relax and settle.

The individual support pupils get is phenomenal. The SEN department, small classes and supportive staff will help both high-flyers and those in need sore to new heights.

The sports offer is broad and keeps pupils healthy and busy. This includes fencing, rugby, hockey, basketball, watersports, climbing and mountain biking.

The creative pursuits are stong, too, especially art and design technology. The passionate head of design helps pupils build model airplanes, furniture, even electric cars!

Weaknesses:

We have heard some complaints about some boarding houses not being quite as nice as others. Make sure to be shown not just the best one, but a couple!
