Framlingham College is not an especially selective school, yet achieves decent academic results year in year out. In 2024, its pupils achieved 44% 9-7 grades at GCSE results and 25% A-grades at A-Level. Solid!
Language-wise Spanish, French, German and Latin on offer.
BTecs on offer are music, sports, computer sciences and business studies.
60% of pupils board.
The school has three boarding houses for girls and four for boys. The boarding houses are cozy enough, though we thought they needed a bit of a touch-up. Pupils share with one or two others.
Exeat weekends exist but are not compulsory.
The sports offer is strong, hockey in particular. In 2019, the Framlingham boys came 4th in the country for hockey and the school was shortlisted for the Independent Schools of the Year ‘Sporting Achievement’ Award 2019. Very impressive for a school of Framlingham College's size! Popular sports are hockey, rugby, cricket, netball, tennis, horse riding, shooting, swimming, running, badminton, basketball and squash.
Framlingham College's creative offer is strong, too. We were especially impressed by the great design and technology department, where we saw a team of pupils construct an e-gocart. Great stuff! The music department is all modern and has its own state-of-the-art recording studio. The art department is airy and bright with some amazing art exhibits on show.
We rate the friendly, unpretentious, down-to-earthness of Framlingham. No arrogant airs here!
The boarding facilities were in need of an upgrade when we visited in 2019.
