Ellesmere College is a non-selective school. Nevertheless the school manages to achieve consistently decent academic results. In 2023, its GCSE results yielded 25% 9-7 grades, 58% A grades at A level and an IB average of 32 points.
Languages are Latin, Greek, German, Spanish and French on offer.
50% of pupils board. Boarding accomodation is modern but cozy. Pupils either share with one other or get single rooms.
Exeat weekends exist but are not compulsory.
Sports is Ellesmere College's main strength. The school offers academies for especially talented swimmers, tennis players, shooters and rugby players. Beyond these specialisms, there is a large number of sports on offer, including basketball, golf, football and badminton. The facilities are excellent, too, with two (!) gyms, an indoor swimming pool, shooting ranges, a sailing lake, golf course and tennis courts.
The school's breadth in academic offers is another big plus. From IB to BTecs, the school offers the highly academic and the vocational in equal measure.
The strong focus on sports makes the school somewhat imbalanced elsewhere: the creative offer is a somewhat mixed bag here.
