Hello from Oxford!
Today we would like to tell you a little bit about five schools that offer amazing tennis coaching.
Before we start, a preamble up front: most decent English boarding schools worth their salt offer good to excellent tennis coaching these days. They offer coaching with professional tennis coaches, have their own state-of-the art facilities including in-door tennis courts, and offer the possibility of regular competitive matches against other schools.
Some English boarding schools, including some of those mentioned here, offer pupils tennis in proper tennis academies. Pupils receive rigorous, individualised tennis coaching programmes, often with the help of former competitive tennis players. So, pretty serious stuff!
Here are von Bülow's personal Top 5:
1. Culford School

It is no secret that Culford School’s tennis programmes are amongst the finest in the UK. The facts speak for themselves: not only does the reputable Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) rank Culford School as "the best co-educational school for tennis in the UK", the U18 boys' team were also crowned National Champions in 2017.
In addition to seven outdoor courts, Culford has four championship standard indoor courts within the School’s Indoor Tennis Centre. Culford’s tennis coaches are equally impressive and include former Davis Cup player, Andrew Richardson and James Yates, a Level 5 Master Performance Coach.
Our tennis aficionado Michael won a tennis scholarship at Culford in 2018 and loved his time there!
2. Bradfield College

Regular readers might have noticed that Bradfield College is regularly featured on this blog when it comes to sports. We feel that's deservedly so. For tennis also!
Bradfield College sports the three court Indoor Tennis Centre, opened by Tim Henman in 2000. The school's tennis academy offers pupils the all-round support they need to transform their abilities: technical & tactical video analysis, strength & conditioning, physical screening, player specific goals, regular parent presentations, and tournament planning & support.
3. Bede's School

Bede's School is yet another top sports school with an amazing tennis programme. It's Elite programme, part of the school's Tennis Academy, is renowned to be one of the best in the UK, if not Europe.
The Elite players receive the most tuition and hands-on training, including over 20 hours a week in some cases, scaling up from the First Year into the Sixth Form. These players receive an unrivalled amount of support at Bede’s, including accompaniment to LTA tournaments, reviewing players, analysing performance and offering technical, tactical and psychological support.
Our pupil Bernadette joined the Elite programme in September and raves about both school and tennis academy!
4. Millfield School

No sports-related blog entry would ever be complete without the mighty Millfield School! As you would expect from this all-round excellent sports school, its tennis is of the highest standard. It's U18 boys and girls have not failed to reach the semi finals of a major tournament in over 20 years!
Millfield Tennis Academy provides sport and academic education, Athletic Development training, individual lessons, sports science and tournament support. These are all included in the High Performance Programme, led by LTA coaches with a proven track record of players going on to be awarded scholarships in the US and playing professional tennis.
5. Repton School

Last but definitely not least, we present you Repton School.
Repton boasts a fine tradition of great tennis players. Over the last 30 years the school has won the Independent Schools’ Championship (Youll cup) 15 times!
Repton also runs an extensive tennis programme for players of all levels of ability, and with 20 courts, including two indoors, pupils spend plenty of time on court.
Inevitably it is the Elite Squad that attracts most attention though! Made up of the best players in the school they train on a daily basis and have International rankings and travel on the ITF and TE Circuit.
Our pupil Elena started in Repton last September and recently told us about her amazing progress thanks to participating in Repton's Elite Squad. Go Elena!
